Event Description

It's been too long since I've been out for a good long ride on the bike so I've decided to organise one. I've got a few possible routes in mind (Cheviots, Alwinton, Rothbury, Edmunbyers/Blanchland, Swaledale, etc). I don't really care - I just want to get a nice ride in before the weather turns really crappy and everywhere turns to mud. If anyone fancies joining me or has another route as a suggestion then please add here.

I'm off on holiday for a week now so I'll catch up with any willing people next week.

This bit:

When you get to the top of spoilheaps over Melbecks moor, keep on the track, with Gunnerside Gill on your left until you see the start of a gulley. if you get as far as the signpost for the footpath to Keld, backtrack about 50ft as you've gone past it - the top looks like this:

And it looks like this from the bottom:

Just make sure you do the bit down through friarfold hush as it's mental & the best bit of the ride (we missed it on the ERFD and ended up pushing back up through it later!)

Here's the route we did (the thick lines) and a few amendments I'd make (the thin lines. It's got direction arrows to show the way to go.

- The bit that heads out through "Barf End" (great name) and Low Row pasture I've never ridden but is supposed to be good.
- The bit that loops around North Hush is a FP but looks great from the other side of the valley (pic below)
- The bit that loops around Gt Pinseat is worth it if you feel like adding a bit extra on at the end, otherwise it's still a nice fast downhill from the bridge back to the cars.

Right, I'm decided: Gunnerside Gill from Feb's ERFD it is. The usual 10am at the car park for 10:30 start. Route here (courtesy of Crispy) - now can anyone tell me which way round you do the figure or 8?

Extra gutted I can't make it - I love Gunnerside, in fact I'm heading down there for an early morning ride tomorrow so I'll get some pics to provide some inspiration for you....

Right, I'm back off holiday. Erm, I think I'm favouring either the Gunnerside Gill ERFD that I missed or the Edmundbyers / Blanchland route from the Beyond Hamsterley guide which I've not done either. Anyone got a preference?
