Everything about Mountain Biking in the North East of England

Switchbacks.com - how f*cking hard!!????

Just back from four days of the hardest and best riding I have ever done in my life! Bike's been bashed to bits and I'm surprised I'm not peeing blood..

Went with Tony C, Richard and Si Rhodes and it was a great trip. The company, www.switch-backs.com, were class and looked after us really well. They picked us up on time, put us in top digs and even booked us into great restaurants. What they didn't do was hold back on the thrills and scares!

Pics are on Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=113999&id=728922158&l=24297a9d1a ), but they don't do any justice to the sheer drop of the trails and the size of the boulders and rocks. I'll have nightmares for months to come....!

Damage count - 2 x Helmets (one cracked and one punctured), 2 x Rear Derailleur (smashed), 1 x Groin (biffed by bars), 1 x Throat (slashed by briers - very scary!) and more bruises then I'd have thought possible outside of a cage-fight.

If you're planning an alpine trip, seriously look at this first - it'll test you more than you could imagine!

ps They also do DH riding 1 mins from Malaga - which they say is easier than the XC holiday (WTF???)

Sorry mate - if it's any consolation, my wrist is still knackered and I've been as tired as a 90 year old since I got back! Deffo looking forward to 2011!! (maybe we need a little trip to Wales next year though...?)

I was amazed at the type and quality of the trails in Spain - not really sure what I expected, but this was class. It's made me wonder about all those other trails out there....

I would imagine it is very different to the the usual French Alpine resorts. I did the Maritime Alps in Italy a couple of years ago, which is a similar sort of thing. Some of the nicest trails i have ever ridden, with only vehicle uplifts or pedalling. just a shame it's 300 miles further down.

Nothing like Alpe D'Huez Tony - all natural trail (and bloody big rocks!) Can't wait to go back though..>!

Glad you enjoyed it. Proper "mountain" biking can be a bit of a shock to the system, but it does get you hooked :-)
