Sorry mate - if it's any consolation, my wrist is still knackered and I've been as tired as a 90 year old since I got back! Deffo looking forward to 2011!! (maybe we need a little trip to Wales next year though...?)

Couldn't you have just said it was crap? Glad you enjoyed it, roll on 2011 eh....

I was amazed at the type and quality of the trails in Spain - not really sure what I expected, but this was class. It's made me wonder about all those other trails out there....

I would imagine it is very different to the the usual French Alpine resorts. I did the Maritime Alps in Italy a couple of years ago, which is a similar sort of thing. Some of the nicest trails i have ever ridden, with only vehicle uplifts or pedal...

Nothing like Alpe D'Huez Tony - all natural trail (and bloody big rocks!) Can't wait to go back though..>!

Switchbacks.com - how f*cking hard!!????

Just back from four days of the hardest and best riding I have ever done in my life! Bike's been bashed to bits and I'm surprised I'm not peeing blood..

Went with Tony C, Richard and Si Rhodes and it was a great trip. The company, www.switch-backs.com, were class and looked after us really well. They picked us up on time, put us in top digs and even booked us into great restaurants. What they didn't do was hold back on the thrills and scares!

DHX 4.0 Shock - setting sag

I've been trying to stop pedal to ground contact on my Giant Reign X0 and had resolved to fit shorter (165mm) crank arms.

However, just before I did Jim (of the earthworm variety) asked if I'd set the sag right - to which I replied "Of course!"

Now, without admitting any liability on my part, I thought I would just ask for advice - to double check that I'd fettled this DHX 4 shock correctly...!

Weighing in at 200lbs I have added 220 psi to the shock and then I think 160 or 170 to the boost va… Continue

Anyone got a hardtail for sale?

One of my pals is looking for a winter XC bike - he's got up to 300 quid to spare and wants a hard-tail (or soft-tail if he can get one)

The two main things he's after are hydraulic disc brakes and half-decent forks (not much then!)

Does anyone have such a large-framed beast for sale?

Cheers,

Down in Scarborough - Anyone know somewhere to ride?

Going to Scarborough next Thursday and Friday for a piss-up and planning a ride on Friday. Have just been to Dalby so was wondering if anyone can suggest a route down that neck of the country? Cheers!

All Mountain Bike - What's the best????

So here's the thing - my Whyte 46 is now 4 year old and looking a teeny bit tired (worn out by the idiot that keeps crashing it!). So I started looking about for a new ride....and that's where the trouble started!

I'm looking for something that can climb, do a bit of freeride and some old-man DH (nothing too scary!)

So far I've tried a Spec Enduro SL (not bad), Giant Reign X0 (v.v.nice, but low BB), Commencal Meta55 (too XC). I've discounted Ellesworth (too many stories about bad build quality… Continue

What did you think of the Deadwater then?

I'm going to give Kielder a miss thanks. I didn't finish work until 4.30am this morning and I think it will be the same tomorrow aswell! I've had 2mths of finishing early at 1.30am due to lack of freight but I think it's come to a stop now freight is building up for xmas! That would be great news if I can fit in the van for Spain. My mobile number is 07968 286083

What time will you be setting off on Thursday then and would I need to take my own car? I don't really want to get up too early as I'll have to work from 6pm to 1.30am driving a waggon. Do you know there are roadworks on the western bypass at Newcastle? You'd be better going up the A68.

Excellent news. Yes I am really excited about Spain. Ordered some spare downhill tubes today and some organic brake pads. What times are you at Kielder on Thursday? I usually wake up at 9am ish but have to be back to mine ready to set off for work at 6pm. We are off to Gisburn Forest and Lee Quarry this Sunday. We are all meeting at Scotch Corner at 8am for the journey down if you are interested

Just make sure you take your climbing legs with you...

Yep, that's the one. After the 3 Dog Climb you'll come to a fireroad. Follow the signs up to a gate across the fireroad with a treeless open hillside in front. This is what I call the crossover point. To your right is the Into the Valley section. Bomb down that, then Jimmy's Hill then the Black 'Up & Over' route. Forest drive, fireroad then back to the red to rejoin it at the top of Twist and Shout.

No probs, just don't go expecting a buttery smooth trail centre surface - it's not. Which is one of the things I like about it.

Cheers for the invite but I can't make it. The Deadwater is the best route up there by far. The Lonesome is really a hard blue but the final descent is a good laugh. The Deadwater is fab, love it. A few tips: have a look at the route map - see the crossover for the figure of 8? If you follow the proper route here it takes you to the top of Deadwater Fell on about 2 miles of fireroad. Stunning view if clear but the downhill isn't worth the effort IMO. Turn right at the gate instead. Where you can do the black or red trail take the black, at the end of it you'll get to the forest drive road. Turn right here then take the first fireroad on the right up a steep long climb which takes you back to the fun red downhill only missing out a few hundred metres of the red trail.

Enjoy.
