Everything about Mountain Biking in the North East of England

Hi
I have just started riding at Thrunton Woods and i was wondering if anyone had a guide to the trails.
They are a little tricky to find. :)

Its all local knowledge I think. Just head up there and keep looking and exploring. We ride wednesday nights throughout the year and still find new bits everytime we go.

Well the thing with Thrunton is that you know it or you don't. The place is a maze with trails so I suggest just going out and exploring. Worked for me ;D.
If you don't already know this one I highly recommend it. A sound Downhill/freeride trail with a couple of fast decents, jumps and technical turns.
To find it starting from the carpark, head up the road passing all the logs, and take the second left at a T junction on the forest roads, about 10second decent along this forest road it starts to bend to the right, just as it starts to this there is an obvious pile of distinct grey gravel which marks the start of the trail, head into the woods and as a check your in the right place there should be a red and white sign post. It's single track and when you have a choice of going left or right choose left. :D Have fun!

The special thing about the trails in Thrunton is that they are kept natural as possible and not signed or graded. So when you do ride them, it is always a surprise. There is a definitive map to all of the trails, available to anyone who joins the Thrunton Trail Builders and comes along and helps us maintain the trails. A small group of us have built the trails over a number of years and have an agreement with the forestry commission to create and maintain them. If you are interested - send me an email.

They should be kept like this, I love Thrunton and don't want it to turn into glentress where you struggle to get a car park space... Great work on the trails man and hope you peeps keep up the good work . Tis the only place I ride tbh like proper trail wise ;D

A few of us guys from the Morpeth area are now doing regular Tuesday night rides again. We usually meet around 7:30 and ride for a few hours and then go for a few pints in Longframlington afterwards. Anyone want to come along?

Sounds good :D... I would be up for it but I take it you need lights?

You need lights in the daylight in some places up there! Have a look on eBay for the Cree P7 torches, they are light and have 900 lumen and make a great helmet torch. At £50ish they are much cheaper than cycling specific stuff. Combine them with sometning on your bars and you have a cracking set up.
