OK, due to a limitation of the Forum SW on the site (ie it's shite) I can't set up sub categories under the routes forum here, so instead (and to be honest I think this works better) I've added a new tab at the top of the page named "Routes" where all routes should be posted. This is essentially a second completely separate forum purely for routes.
All I need from you guys is a list of how you want the forum split up, so feel free to post ideas for categories below and once we have a consensus I'll set them up.
When you post a route it should be in the relevant category, and you will be able to upload route files etc but also you will be able to add tags relating to the type of ride, specific locations etc which everyone will be able to use to search (ie if you want an epic in County Durham). To make the tags as useful as possible it would be good if people could make suggestions of the type of info they would want to search by and we can then post some guidelines so everyone uses the same tags.
I use memory map...best one out there!! Like you I've got plenty of routes in and around the NYM and Durham, but mostly the NYM. I've even got the C2C if anyone is interested...let me know by dropping me an e-mail denny-69@hotmail.co.uk and I'll send the files to you.
I have got all my routes, particularly on the North York Moors, marked on memorymap. How do you save the routes as individual files, as im quite happy posting some off my favourite trails.
Good idea, would be good to see and share local trails.
The quickest way is to right-click on the selected route and click "save-as", then save it as an .mmo file. This file can be uploaded or shared via email once it is saved.
I tend to use the right-click in MM for the majority of my navigation, if you havent tried it already give it a go.
The problem in saving it as an .mmo file is that it will only work with memorymap. Save it as a .gpx file and it should be able to work with most mapping software.
.gpx will also allow me to integrate them into a map to display on the site via google maps or preferably the new Ordnance Survey API once it's released.
Course that's that's always assuming I actually get around to sorting out the trail map ;-)
If you decide to do that route Shnifter let me know what you think...let me know of any problems with the file and I'll see what I can do about it. What we could do with is someone using anquet or Tracklogs to download the file and see if it works for sure!
The Routes section is open for business so post away. If you are attaching a route file from memory map or similar, please save it as a .gpx file.
Any additional info about the route would be great and please remember to use the tags (at the bottom of the page you post on) as it will make it loads easier to find routes via the search function.
