Has anyone out there got dedicated Bike Insurance? If so could you please post a reply on what restrictions companys are putting on you (ie; Sold secure locks) and if you have ever had to make a claim how good they were at sorting it out
Thanks for your views.
Nearly all Cycle dedicated companies require you to have a sold secure lock on your bike, some even have a list of approved locks to make life easier. The problem being sold secure aren't that cheap, I got in touch with an Insurance company had a look at their list of approved locks...mine wasn't on, but it's sold secure gold lock bought from bikehut for £35. Here's the rather exhaustive link :-
You can only enquire to see if this lock is acceptable. In the mean time I'm still hunting for Insurance for both my bikes so if I get some positive feedback about the lock I'll let you know.
Just took out a policy with :- www.bcbikeinsurance.co.uk They have a lock stipulation to there policies but as long as your lock is sold secure and it covers the price range for your bike laid out in the Approved locks list then you are in business!
I took out a policy for both of my bikes totalling £900 of cover for just under £6 a month....not bad eh! Give em a whirl and let me know how you got on
Hi Denny! thank's for the link about bike insurance, just got a quote of £20.23 a month For a £2400 bike which I suppose does seem alot seeing I pay roughly the same for my new vauxhall corsa. But after paying 2 grand + for a bike you want to make sure it is covered.
I've got Home insurance with Marks and Spencers they will insure all 5 of my bikes on my policy, for up to £4.5k each, without recipts, this would be for insurance anywhere, if it fell off the back of the car/ from outside the shop or on an event...
nawest cover buildings and contents including unlimited bike cover for £50 pm in Fairfield, Stockton.
I last claimed for my stolen custom HT and Giant Anthem and was reimbursed £5000 within 6 weeks. Premium increased by 40p! this renewal. Best policy ever!
