MTB North East

Everything about Mountain Biking in the North East of England

What are everyone's plans for the long weekend?

Personally, I'm undecided as to where and when, but I've negotiated a pass out for 2 rides, probably Sat and Mon.

Am off to the lakes to do the langdales loop including the iron keld sweet single track section and loughrigg fell, there's also the track that actually goes into the edge of rydal water! Snow predicted though but still can't wait.
Bring it on.

Could be up for a trip to Dalby. Might have to do some jaycore XC stuff though, as Ive always fancied doing the whole red route. Then play at Dixons hollow - in the snow probably!

Going to try Kielder for the first time on Monday - looks like its going to be crappy weather-wise, but what the hell!

Unfortunately I'm going to have to stay fairly local so I'll probably end up riding Hamsterley, Guisborough, or maybe around Blanchland. May be picking up some SPD pedals and shoes tomorrow if I can find some I like / in my size so should be a few comedy moments when I forget to unclip!

Chris, is this the route you are doing? Looks great, let us know what it's like.

Dave F, let me know your thoughts on Kielder, I'm keen to get up there myself soon.

when and if you get you spuds on. remember to release the spring clip as much as possible, to make your feet detatch when you've fell over lol. it's funny the 1st couple of times. but nowt worse than being stuck lying on the floor still attached to your bike.
Im heading off to wales gonna try the new coed-y-brennin route and a quick blast round the climachx trail in corris, only about an hours ride but longest descent in wales, mint!!

Yeah, fully prepared to make an arse of myself when I fall over (alot)! Not too sure how I'm going to get on with them but figured I would give them a whirl to give me an extra couple of % on the climbs (I need it). My main concern is on the downhill bit's - can you still dab if needs be (ie does it become natural to unclip and dab in one movement instinctively when you need to)?

Wales should be great, I'm jealous - think I'll have to wait till next year for a trip that way though unless I do some serious grovelling with the missus (or let her loose with the credit card in return for another weekend away!)

i.ve been riding spd's for years. you do get used to having them. it's difficult to adjust to them not being there. i don't ride dh or jumps with them obviously. but it's great being able to pull up on pedals as well as push down. if your railing a good descent like up at keilder or spooky at glenny or deliverance at glenny you do have more control over the back end of the bike coz you can place it where you want it to be.

Will let you know about Kielder - if we get there! If I'm sticking local ('cos of the weather) I'll let you know, if you want to tag along. Good luck with the SPD's - Shimano DX's are good platform SPD's (you can ride clipped out as well as in) Best advice is never clip in until you're moving and always unclip before you stop! Cheers, Dave
