Event Description

Round 4 of the Northern Downhill Series has been confirmed for 8th & 9th August. The venue will be Eastgate in Weardale (I'm guessing at the old cement works, where the proposed MTB trails are).

It looks as though it will be an open, fast track with lot's of air time so should be an awesome event for those spectating (ie me) as well as those taking part.

"The track has a vertical drop of 190meters which is greater than Kidland at 180m and Hamsterley at 130m. The track is nt quite as steep as kidland but is set on a steep hillside with a consistent gradient with intermittant sudden drops which should provide you with many ski jump type flyoffs!

As you know we don t care about wringing as much time as possible out of a hill all we care about is maximum downhill action! As there is hardly a tree in sight we re gonna set the track up to be warp speed. You may take your peak off and you may wear tights but you wont need lance armstrongs legs or lungs. You re just gonna have to be able to hold your nerve and carry your speed well.

As an expert rider the speed is going to challenge you to the maximum just think of le bresse and as a beginner you won t have to worry about huge man made obstacles getting in your way."

"Phil and I have been up at Eastgate today deciding on the lines we re going to take down the hill. It took us 3 hours to decide we had so much to choose from! We rekon we ve got it just about dialled now.

The top part of the track starts right next to the drop off point and straight into bombhole followed by a high speed fade. Your then going to run down a tight gully straight down the hill which we re going to bus stop for some extra challenge for you before a jump through a broken wall. This should then get you onto a couple of fast long sweeping corners into a huge fade jump ( i rekon anyway!) and back through the wall onto a huge s bend between two walls. This is where your speed is really going to pick up through same long sweeping corners leading you to the ruins!!!!! Here there is quite a huck onto a huge downslope that we rekon you should easily top 40mph. This takes you about half way down the track. Your just gonna have to come and race to find out the rest."

Just been up to Eastgate. After talking to the pub landlord and the warden from the caravan site about this event the term p155 up in a brewry springs to mind.
The organisers were supposed to confirm numbers so the pub could cater for the increase in customers and he has been told NOWT. The organisers website says you will be camping right next to the pub. This gives you a choice of two roads or a river. WTF is going on? Does anybody actually know?

Haven't got a clue I'm afraid - there don't seem to be any details on the site either.
