Octoberfest is the last race of the 2009 Marathon Series. It'll be over 2 laps of a 25km circuit, concentrating on the area of forest to the North of Kielder village. There'll be some cracking rooty singletrack, some forest roads, and it will finish off with the final downhill sections of the Deadwater Trail.

About the Marathon Series:

Each event will be pre-marked, and route maps will be available to view on the morning of the race days.

The overall series winner in each class receives a challenge shield (to be returned the following year) and a replica (to keep). Class winners on the day receive prizes donated by The Bike Place. Points are awarded for both position and attendance.

The entry fee for each event is £18 and should be paid at least 4 days in advance. This includes hot food at The Angler's Arms after the event.

The races are organised by the Kielder Trail Reavers in conjunction with Forestry Commission, and run under TCA guidelines. All proceeds are to be split equally between KTR and Great North Air Ambulance.

How did you get on Ray? I took my 18 year old Mountain Goat Whiskeytown and struggled a bit to be honest. I ran out of brakes at the end of the second lap (brand new pads) and called it a day. The climbs really did me in and I now realize that getting in a few evening rides and a longer run at the weekend is not enough to go at that pace. I loved the rough descent towards the end of the lap and managed to pass a few modern full sussers but the climbs completely finished me. I think you lapped me at one point (i had stopped for a fag) near the top.
Going to get fitter over the winter and have another crack next year. Might even get a modern bike to do it on :-)
Cheers
Si

Hi si done all the marathon series on a xtc carbon hardtail last year and this year up to now and have done ok on this finishing 6th in the hot trot. But the organisers are gradually making the courses harder for the hardtail so this will be the first time i will be racing with a full sus the giant anthem advance as i have just built this frame up. If you are wanting to ride a full suss make it as light as possible as there is allways lots of big climbs and take lots of fluids as i allways seem to run out near the end. This time i am filling my 2l cammel bak to the limit and taking a few energy gels. good luck for sat might see you there i will be wearing a blue and white giant long sleeeve shirt.

So who is going and what are you riding? Its my first race since the Boltby Bash in 1988 so if you see someone looking bemused and bewildered that'll be me.
