we were driven to the start by wor trev so no bus worries . but the lack of organisation at the start really got on my tits. no one seemed to know what was happening .
and very little signage on route added to the tiniest route map known to man and me without my glasses.meant we added many miles to the ride.

we reckoned we could drop our time to 3.30 but I like to chill a bit rather than tool along all the way.

pleased you enjoyed it psycho & john. This was my third year riding in this event and loved it again also got my PB time of 2hrs 57mins. The only issue i had was what was the bus driver sniffing. He took over 2 hours to get there from sunderland to gateshead centre to newcastle centre to hexhen centre then to a closed road the wrong side of allenheads at 10.30 when we were told to walk half a mile to allenheads lodge to find out half of the riders set off at 10am and i set off at 10.50 no mass start like other years. other than that the rest of the ride was mint with a nice BBQ at the end and a nice T shirt for the effort. its in my diary for next year hopefully the driver has been sacked by then.

Done this ride the last two years and it is a great day out on the bike. Good friendly atmosphere lots of lots of banta. You can ride it at whatever pace suits you. Last year about 20 riders stopped for a cuppa at parkhead st hotel at the top of waskerly way. For £12 its an absolute bargain and the organisers really look after you at the start and finish. Free mars bars bottled water and bananas at the start and Free T shirt drink and BBQ at the end. Great day out its a one not to miss.
